I recently got my first Mac, a MacBook Air M4, and I'm having trouble logging in. I'm not totally sure which OS version I have, but it's the latest one. Yesterday, when I rebooted my Mac, it asked for my password and when I entered it, the screen shook indicating it was incorrect. I've tried entering it in every possible way and now I'm locked out for increasingly longer periods with each failed attempt.
I'm confused about the fingerprint reader because it doesn't seem to help me log in at all. I have my iPhone 15 Pro Max with me, but I'm not sure if I can use it to unlock my Mac.
I don't see any option for "forgot password" or anything similar to reset my password like you would on other devices. What should I do next? Can I reset my password using my iPhone or through email?

For the future, it’s a good idea to create a secondary admin user or even two. That way, if you run into issues like this again, you’ll have a backup to help you out. Also, don’t forget to set up password hints; they can really save you!
