Hey everyone! I'm having a frustrating issue with my HP Pavilion laptop where I'm the only account, but somehow I'm not an administrator. I've looked through various solutions, but they all require admin access to run commands, which I can't do. In the User Accounts section, it just shows me and labels my account as a guest. I've heard that some solutions involve using the command prompt, but I keep getting denied access there too. I'm feeling pretty stuck and would really appreciate any guidance you can share!

It sounds like a weird situation since Windows should always have at least one admin account. To fix this, you can try using the command prompt, but make sure to run it as an admin. Here’s how:
1. Open the search bar and type CMD.
2. Right-click on the Command Prompt result and select 'Run as administrator.'
3. Type "net user administrator /active:yes" (without the quotes) and hit Enter.
Log out and check if the admin account appears. If that doesn't work, you may need to reinstall Windows, ensuring that your account isn't set as a guest on the new installation.
Good luck!
That’s definitely strange! Windows 11 doesn’t support the old guest accounts anymore, so something’s off. You might need to boot from a recovery USB to access a command prompt that isn't restricted. Once there, you can load the C drive’s registry and enable the built-in admin account, which doesn't require a password. After that, you should be able to log in and grant your main account admin rights. Google those steps for specifics, and you'll get through this!
It’s not typical to be using a guest account as the only user on a personal laptop. Usually, administrative privileges let you run apps needing enhanced permissions without issues. You can check if you can run PowerShell as admin: search for it, right-click and select 'Run as administrator.' If you can, then you have some admin capabilities. But really, if your account is still guest-level, I’d look into restoring your admin access or even reinstalling Windows. Better to have the admin access for updates and settings!
I get what you mean; I need admin rights too for installs and updates! What's the point of having a guest account on a personal device?

When I try to run it as admin, I only see the option to decline the changes. What should I do?
