Help! I’m Struggling with My iCloud – How Do I Keep My Photos Safe?

I'm 21, and iCloud is really confusing me! My iCloud storage is completely full, primarily with backups and photos. This often prevents my camera from opening due to lack of space. I regularly back up my photos to a hard drive and delete some from iCloud, which means many pictures currently on my phone aren't stored in iCloud, and some old ones are now unavailable—this is really upsetting.

If I delete a large number of photos from iCloud, will the ones in my camera roll (that aren't currently uploaded) automatically upload? If not, how can I ensure they make it to iCloud? I thought deleting an image from iCloud would also delete it from my phone, but that hasn't been my experience.

Additionally, how can I access my older images? I want to retrieve them; these photos are important to me for both professional and personal reasons, especially of loved ones I've lost. Also, if I delete an old backup but keep the newest one, am I risking losing anything currently on my phone? Please explain this in simple terms—photos and videos are the only tangible memories I have, and I really need help!

Hey! It sounds like you're running into some common iCloud issues. If you want to remove clutter, you might consider creating a separate folder on your computer to store your photos. After a shoot, transfer everything from iCloud to that folder. This way, your main iCloud storage stays clear and you can access all your photos whenever you need through services like Dropbox or OneDrive. You could even make an album in iCloud titled 'Keepers' for the photos you want to keep on your phone.

That's a smart move! Do you think using Google Drive for this would be a good idea?
