Help! Is My RAM or PSU Causing My Computer to Freeze?

Hey everyone! I'm having some major issues with my PC, and I'm hoping you can help me figure this out. I'm not super tech-savvy, but here's what's going on: I was using Streamlabs and tried to test my alert box while running a game. Suddenly, everything froze up, and it happened a couple of times, so I thought it was a Streamlabs issue. However, later when I tried playing a game without any other applications open, my PC froze again and then restarted on its own.

I cleaned my computer recently, and all my drivers are up to date. My CPU and GPU temperatures are around 50°C (122°F), which seems normal. I have an AMD Ryzen 5 5600X processor, 16GB of RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti graphics card. My power supply is a 650W model that I bought about two years ago. From what I've read online, it seems like it could be a RAM issue, but I'm really confused. Thanks a lot in advance for any insights!

It sounds like you might be dealing with a tricky problem here. Have you checked for any mini dump files in C:WindowsMinidump? Freezing could be from various issues, but from my experience, bad RAM or a PSU generally causes distinct symptoms. Bad RAM tends to lead to crashes or blue screen errors, while a failing PSU usually just shuts everything off unexpectedly.

When your system freezes, if you can still move the mouse cursor but nothing else responds, that could point to a storage device issue. If everything freezes, including the cursor, it could indicate a problem with your graphics card or some other complex issue in the system.

Yeah, I found a couple of mini dumps—one from June and another from today when it froze and rebooted. I also noticed that my PC makes a weird noise for about five seconds when it freezes, then goes back to normal. And now I've experienced a BSOD for the first time. It's really frustrating!
