Help! Just Installed a Ryzen 5 5600X and There’s No Display

I recently upgraded my CPU from a Ryzen 5 4600G to a Ryzen 5 5600X but I'm having issues getting a display. I have a dedicated GPU installed, and I've updated the BIOS on my Gigabyte A520M K V2 motherboard, but I'm still getting no display. The fans are spinning fine, and I can still run my old CPU without problems. I'm hoping someone can help troubleshoot this before I have to take my PC to a technician. Also, I bought the 5600X from PCWorth about three weeks ago, so I think the warranty should still be valid, and I have the box too.

Just a quick note: the "G" in your old CPU's name means it has integrated graphics. The 5600X doesn’t have its own GPU, so you definitely need to have a dedicated GPU to get a display.

I do have an old 1660 Super, which is why I thought the 5600X would be a good upgrade!

You might want to try resetting the BIOS. Sometimes it defaults to the previous integrated graphics setting, which can prevent the new GPU from outputting video.

Thanks for the tip!

It sounds like your new CPU might be dead, especially since you've confirmed the BIOS update went through and your old one works just fine. Definitely worth bringing up with the seller to see if you can get a replacement.

Damn, I was hoping that wasn't the case. Thanks for the advice! Yes, the BIOS is definitely updated to the latest version.

Make sure you’re connecting the monitor to the GPU output rather than the motherboard port. It's a common mistake to forget that! You need to plug into the GPU area to get a signal.

Yep, it's plugged into the GPU. I waited about 20 minutes for it to boot, but it still showed just a black screen with no 'no signal' message.
