Hi everyone! I recently experienced a failure with my 10-year-old PC, likely due to the motherboard, and I'm looking to put together an entirely new build. Most of my components are also outdated, except for my GPU, so I want a fresh start. I'm currently watching videos and browsing online, but I'm feeling overwhelmed by the options and unsure of what to buy.
I don't have a fixed budget right now since I'm still saving, but ideally, I'd like to keep the total cost around 2000 euros. I'm willing to invest what I can, but I want to make sure I don't overspend. My gaming interests include older titles like Oblivion, Skyrim, Red Dead Redemption, and Witcher 3, as well as newer games like Kingdom Come 2 and Baldur's Gate 3. I want to run these games on high or ultra settings for smooth gameplay.
I'm just a casual gamer who mainly uses the PC for gaming, music, and YouTube, so I want to make sure I get a good build without unnecessary overkill. I'm uncertain about things like whether I need 16 or 32GB of RAM, what CPU provides the best value, and what motherboard to select.
I could potentially keep my PSU (a Corsair RM850) and GPU (a 1660ti) if they're still viable. What I need suggestions on include:
- Case
- Mobo
- CPU
- RAM
- Cooling (no water)
- Monitor
- Mouse
- Optional parts like WiFi and sound cards.
I'm eager to learn about all this and would appreciate any suggestions or guidance you all might have. Thanks a bunch!

To save some cash while getting performance, consider a build with a Ryzen 7700 or 9700X paired with something like a 5070 Ti. It's a great choice for mid-tier builds. Your RM850 should handle it, but I'd still suggest getting a new PSU just to be safe.
Thanks! I think it's better to be safe and replace it after so many years.
Your Corsair RM850 is a solid power supply, but I’d suggest replacing it if it's already over 10 years old. As for RAM, since you're gaming, going for 32GB now may be a good investment. Also, if you're primarily gaming at 1080p, you should be in good shape with a 2000 Euro budget; you can get a nice build without skimping too much on quality. What resolution are you planning to play at, by the way?
I’m looking at at least 1080p, but I'm curious about higher resolutions given how beautiful games can look! Definitely want something that lasts a while.
Future-proofing is key, so investing in a monitor that can handle higher resolutions could be worth it!
Hey! For building a solid gaming PC under 2000 euros, I'd recommend considering a mid-range CPU like the Ryzen 7800X3D paired with a GPU like the 9070XT. PCPartPicker is a great tool to start piecing everything together, even if it seems overwhelming at first. You'll be able to set filters to help narrow down your options! That said, definitely check out customer reviews and details to understand the differences between parts like motherboards.
I get that it can be confusing when you're not sure about what specs to look for. The key is figuring out what meets your gaming needs without overspending. Just focus on components that support the games you want to play!
Thanks for the suggestions! It's tough to filter everything so I appreciate it!
It looks like you're in the right place for advice! Based on what you're after, I’d recommend posting this in r/buildapcforme too, as they really specialize in full build suggestions. As long as you follow their rules, you should find some solid help there!
Yeah, I’ll do that if this post doesn’t get much traction, thanks for the tip!
Good call! The folks there are super helpful with full build setups.
Definitely! With the new parts, you’ll want the PSU to be reliable.
