I'm thinking about building my own PC, but I'm not very tech-savvy. My main use for it will be gaming, especially playing Fortnite and trying out mods for games like Mass Effect. I'd also like to do some basic tasks, such as managing my personal finances. I've done a bit of research and found that PCPartPicker is a helpful site, but with all the different parts and brands out there, I'm feeling overwhelmed. I'm saving up to move into my own place, so I can't afford to buy everything at once or go for a super high-end setup. I'm looking to gradually collect quality parts on sale instead. Can you recommend a build list that fits my needs? My budget is around $1000 to $1200.

When it comes to power supplies, I’d recommend Corsair, Thermaltake, MSI, and Cooler Master. They all offer decent options. If you're going for a modular power supply, it will cost a bit more but is much easier to manage and keeps your build looking tidy since you only use the cables you need. Non-modular ones are cheaper but can lead to a mess of cables. Also, Sapphire is generally a known name for GPUs; if they have a good reputation, you should be fine, but avoid no-name brands at all costs!
Thanks! I’ll keep that in mind while shopping.
I think AMD processors are a solid choice for building a gaming PC. Since you're looking at a budget around $1000-1200, I’d suggest checking out something from the Ryzen 7 series. Just make sure that your motherboard and processor are compatible with the AM5 socket. If you’re okay with a slightly older build, the AM4 Ryzen 7 5700x is still a great option and usually more budget-friendly. And definitely don't skimp on the power supply; aim for something reliable from a recognized brand. For graphics cards, you'll want to look into AMD and Nvidia.
Thanks for the tips! I’ve been hearing good things about Sapphire for graphics cards. Do you think they are reliable?
Thanks for the advice on AMD! I’ll take a closer look at those options.
Great list! I'm curious about what to look for in a good graphics card as well. Any specific recommendations?
