Hey everyone! I'm looking to build my very first desktop PC after years of using laptops and gaming notebooks. Now that I finally have the budget, I want to create a powerful machine that can handle multiple monitors and run my favorite games at max settings. I'm currently profitable in intraday trading and want to use some of my earnings for this project. I've put together a configuration on Mifcom, but I'd love your input on whether I'm making the right choices and if there's anything I should change. Here's a snapshot of my build:
- **Case**: Fractal Design - North XL Black | Glass Side Panel
- **CPU**: Intel Core i9-14900K
- **Motherboard**: ASUS TUF Gaming Z790-Plus WIFI D5
- **GPU**: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 32GB
- **RAM**: 64GB Corsair Dominator Titanium RGB DDR5-6400
- **Primary SSD**: 4TB Samsung 9100 PRO
- **Secondary SSD**: 1TB Samsung 990 EVO Plus
- **PSU**: 1000W ASUS ROG Strix Platinum
- **CPU Cooler**: be quiet! Pure Loop 2 | 360mm AIO Liquid Cooler
- **Case Fans**: 5x 120mm be quiet! Light Wings

I'm serious about getting this right and would really appreciate any assistance or suggestions from you guys. Thanks a ton!

Absolutely switch to AMD if you're spending that much! Their CPUs like the 7800x3d not only outperform Intel for gaming but have also shown better thermal performance. If productivity is a big concern, the 9950x3d is a solid option as it has more cores, making multitasking smoother. You'll also have a better upgrade path with AMD's socket.

Alright! Thanks, I think I’ll consider swapping to AMD. But can you explain why I should care about potential upgrades in two years? Can't I just switch to AMD then?

Yes, you need different motherboards for Intel and AMD due to different sockets. It's best to plan for the long term!

You might want to consider going with an AMD CPU instead of Intel. The 9800x3d is a great choice for gaming and has been shown to outperform Intel's offerings. Plus, the AM5 socket will be supported for a couple more years, so you'll have upgrade options down the line. Just make sure you also get a suitable power supply since the RTX 5090 draws more power than its specs suggest; I'd recommend a 1200W PSU for safety.

So you think AMD is better than any Intel CPU right now?

What do you mean by 'dead platform'? Is it the website I used to build the PC?
