Hey everyone! I'm in a bit of a bind here. My phone got stolen while I was studying abroad in Italy, and when I tried to file a claim with AppleCare+ for Theft/Loss, I realized that my coverage had been quietly discontinued. I had specifically gotten AppleCare+ with Theft/Loss for my new iPhone 16 back in September and was being charged monthly until I stopped receiving emails when I returned to the US. I never canceled it, and I wasn't notified about any changes. I'm really worried about losing $1300 because of this issue. Has anyone else faced something similar? What can I do now?

It sounds like your payment method might have changed or expired, and you might have missed the notifications from Apple. It happens a lot—they might have canceled the AppleCare+ without you realizing it. Your title seems a bit misleading, though.
Did your phone have a passcode set on it? Apple introduced a Stolen Device Protection feature in January 2024 with iOS 17.3, and since your iPhone shipped with iOS 18, it's important to check if that was enabled. Also, have you reached out to Apple to find out when exactly your AppleCare+ expired? That could clarify a lot.
Funny how you pointed out not contacting Apple yet, but here we are on Reddit! Definitely reach out to them for clarity.
How did you buy AppleCare+? Was it through a retailer, directly from the phone, or online? That might affect your coverage, especially since you were overseas when you got it.
I got it straight from the Apple Store when I bought the phone in person. But I’m worried since it was in Italy—will that make coverage different back in the US?
I’ve received expiration notices for my other AppleCare products, but nothing came for this one. It doesn’t make sense that it canceled without any notification.
