I just picked up an ASUS GTX 1070 and installed it in my old computer since my main setup is under repair. The PC powers on, but the graphics card's light turns red, and there's no signal on the monitor. The fans also stop spinning after a short time. Is there something I'm missing?

Don't lose hope just yet! Sometimes upgrading older systems can cause issues due to power supply limits. Make sure your PSU is strong enough for the GTX 1070. If everything checks out, you might need to return it.
It sounds like the card could be dead, especially if nothing spins up properly. Did it show any sign of life when you first turned it on? If the fans aren't running, that's not a good sign. You might want to check if it's seated properly in the PCIe slot.
Yeah, I agree with GamerDude. If it spins up for a few seconds and then stops, that’s usually a bad sign. I'd recommend checking the power connections too. If it's not connected properly, it could be causing this issue. If nothing works, consider getting a refund or replacement, especially since you just bought it.
