Help! My Brother Reset His PC and Now It’s Acting Up

I gave my brother my old PC parts (CPU, mobo, RAM, GPU) after upgrading, and he got a new MSI Gungnir 110R case. Everything was fine for the first 24 hours, but then he accidentally hit the reset button. After that, the PC wouldn't display anything on the screen until I had to force a shutdown multiple times. When it finally displayed, it started locking up and becoming unresponsive, with occasional blue screens and memory errors.

I tried troubleshooting by testing each RAM stick and found one that caused blue screens, so I'm left with 16GB total. I thought upgrading from Windows 10 to 11 and wiping everything would help, and it did make the system work, but I still get weird lock-ups during boot. The only difference is the new NVMe/SSD drives he's using. I'm confused because everything worked fine before he hit that reset button. Although the issue seems resolved, I'm still worried about these random freeze-ups during startup. What could be causing this?

Also, make sure there’s no overclocking set in the BIOS. Resetting BIOS to defaults can help clarify if that’s causing the lock-ups.

What are the specific components? Knowing the processor could help us narrow down the issues.

Here are the specs: CPU: 10700k, GPU: 3070FE, RAM: 32GB (now 16 since I had to pull a stick), and MOBO: MPG Z490 Gaming Edge WiFi.

I wonder if your brother is being fully honest about what he did. It's possible something got misconfigured when he reset it.

Fair point, but I doubt he'd lie about it. He's usually pretty careful with tech.

First thing to do is unplug the reset button from the motherboard and see if that clears up the issue. Sometimes a faulty button can cause strange behavior.
