Help! My Computer’s Stuck on a Fake Ransomware Pop-Up – What Should I Do?

Hey everyone! I was just browsing the internet when a tab unexpectedly opened up. It looked like my country's cyber crime portal claiming I'd been caught with materials related to child pornography and homosexuality, threatening me with police action unless I paid ₹28,000 (roughly $328). I was totally freaked out and shut my computer down. Then, I created a bootable Windows USB on my phone, switched the boot priority in BIOS, but when I tried to boot from it, I got a weird message telling me to remove the USB. I couldn't get it to boot from the USB drive, so out of panic, I boxed my PC up. I'm really stuck and unsure of what to do next!

Don't stress out too much! This sounds more like a fake pop-up ad rather than actual ransomware. It seems like your USB isn't set up right for booting. Try booting into Windows normally; that pop-up should disappear. A full antivirus scan is also a good idea to make sure everything's clean.

Yeah, it really does sound like a fake! Just make sure to run an antivirus scan after you get back in.
