Hi everyone, I'm really stressed out right now and could use some guidance. This morning when I turned on my PC, it got stuck on the boot screen for an extended period. I checked the BIOS, and everything appeared fine—I could see my RAM and all that, but I'm no expert. After a while, it booted up normally, but then I noticed my Spotify shortcut on the taskbar was missing, which struck me as odd. I checked 'This PC' and saw that both my D: and E: drives were completely gone. Just yesterday, everything seemed fine, but I did have an odd issue with in-game screenshots not working. I also remembered before shutting down last night there was a cryptic error message about 'IOS' or 'IO' not functioning correctly, and I'm regretting not paying more attention to it. I'm running Windows 11 and I'm not super tech-savvy, so this really has me worried about my files. Has anyone encountered something like this, and what should my first steps be? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! 🙏

It sounds like there might be an issue with that 1TB drive. Sometimes drives can develop bad sectors or other faults, which might cause your system to not recognize them. A good first step would be to unplug the drives and see if your PC boots up normally. If it does, that could confirm the drives are causing the issue. If you can get it running without them, then you’ll need to consider either replacing the drives or getting some data recovery tools to see if you can retrieve your files from the faulty drives.
Before you dive into any replacements, double-check if your D: and E: drives are part of a single 1TB disk split into two partitions or are actually separate drives. If they’re separate, you can easily check that in Disk Management on Windows. Just right-click on the Start button and select Disk Management. This will show you how the drives are configured. If it’s partitioned, maybe the issue is with just one of them.
Also, just a quick reminder to always keep backups of important files! Issues like this can pop up out of nowhere, and having backups can save you a lot of heartache.
