I recently had my laptop screen break and had all my data transferred to another drive by a tech support service. However, now one of my folders has turned into a .lnk file, and all the documents inside it seem to be affected as well. I'm wondering if there's any way to recover my lost files and what could have possibly gone wrong during the transfer. So far, it looks like only this one folder is an issue. I used LibreOffice, and I believe all my lost files were .odt and stored locally. I used to have Windows, but now I'm on Linux Mint. If there's a better place to post this, please let me know!

What specific folder are you missing? If it's something standard like 'My Documents' or 'My Videos', you could find those under usersyour old username on your old drive. Just make sure you're looking in the right spot.
It sounds like they didn't handle the data transfer right. Do you still have access to your old drive? If so, you might be able to recover the original files directly from it. Keep looking through it to see if you can find what should be in that folder.
Yes, I have the old SSD and checked the files on it; it's the same situation there too.
That definitely indicates something went wrong during the transfer. Make sure to check all the folders to see if anything is misplaced.

I'm looking in that section, but the subfolder I need is just gone. Even searching for the original file names only pulls up those .lnk versions.
