I recently had to do a fresh reinstall of Windows on my EliteBook 840 G3 after my previous installation stopped working. The technician who helped me mentioned my battery was puffed up and removed it. He installed Windows 10 version 21H2, but now I'm experiencing a significant drop in FPS. Before the reinstall, I was getting around 60-80 FPS, and now it's only 30-50. Should I update Windows, or is there something else going on?

You really need to check if you've got all the necessary drivers installed, particularly for the GPU. Your laptop might have an integrated Intel HD 520, and having outdated or missing drivers could really affect performance. Go to HP’s support page for your model and download the latest drivers.
Have you considered what version of Windows you had before? Upgrading from Windows 8 to Windows 10 can impact performance. Also, make sure your laptop has all the updated drivers installed, especially for the graphics card.
I had Windows 10 too, probably a later version though. But I'm not sure that’s what caused the FPS drop.
Don't forget to check if you're using a discrete GPU. Integrated graphics can struggle with some modern games. Make sure your power settings are optimized for performance, not battery saving, too!
Just checked, and it looks like the version I got might not have the right drivers. I'm gonna reinstall them and see if it helps.
