Help! My HP Laptop Display is Acting Up—What Can I Do?

Hey everyone! My HP laptop's display has suddenly stopped working properly, and it's never done this before. I haven't dropped it or had any major accidents happen. I think the hinge being duct taped isn't the issue since it's only broken at the joint, and I can't see any damaged wires. When I connect my drawing tablet, the screen appears normal, so I know the laptop is functioning otherwise. Just so you know, it's an experimental model that used to fold into a drawing tablet, which is likely why the hinge is broken. Unfortunately, I've had it for a while now, and since my insurance has expired, my family can't afford repairs. I can still control everything through my drawing tablet, but I'd love some advice on how to fix the display without spending money!

Have you tried connecting it to an external monitor? If you can get a picture there, it confirms the issue is with your laptop’s screen rather than the internals. If it’s the screen, you might find replacement parts online pretty cheap if you’re willing to swap it out yourself. Plus, many guides are available on YouTube to walk you through any repairs!

Yeah, I’ll check that out! Connecting to an external monitor sounds like a solid plan.

It sounds like your laptop's display might have a loose connection or a failing screen. Since you can see everything fine on the drawing tablet, that’s a good sign! You could try reseating the display cables if you're comfortable opening it up. Make sure to power it off and unplug it first. If it’s out of warranty and you don’t want to spend much, DIY fixes are often the way to go. Just be cautious!

Great point, just be careful when you're inside the laptop. Sometimes those display connections get loose over time.
