Help! My iMac is Bricked After Attempting to Install Sierra

I recently tried to install macOS Sierra on my old iMac from around 2008-2009 using a method I found on YouTube. Unfortunately, I ended up messing things up, and now my Mac is empty with no operating system or recovery partition. I'm attempting to use a bootable USB drive, but it doesn't show up when I hold the option key during startup. Does anyone have any suggestions for how to fix this?

Just a thought: sometimes using a different USB drive or the USB port can help. If the current USB isn't recognized, it might be worth trying another one. And make sure you set it up correctly as a bootable drive!

It sounds like your problem could be with how the USB drive is set up or maybe an issue with the USB port or keyboard. Sometimes, there's a difference in the boot system when moving from El Capitan to Sierra, so if your iMac only supports El Capitan, you might want to try installing that instead to see if it works. Meanwhile, you could also look into installing something like Linux Mint or Chrome OS Flex as alternatives.

Good luck with your iMac! I'm not really a Mac user, but I hope you get it sorted out soon.
