I've been dealing with some major issues on my new ROG Scar 18 laptop with an i9 14900H and RTX 4080 since I got it a month ago. I'm experiencing frequent crashes and BSODs in certain games like Elite Dangerous and Baldur's Gate 3, while others run perfectly fine. I've done a clean install of Windows 11, used the latest drivers from ASUS, and even tried DDU to ensure there are no conflicting drivers. Despite stress tests and benchmarks passing without any issues, I'm still worried about whether it's a hardware failure or a software glitch. I recently got a C++ redist installed after launching GTA V, and then suddenly, Elite Dangerous stopped crashing. I'm unsure if this was a temporary fix or if I should be looking into an RMA for potential hardware issues. What should I do?

To really confirm if it's a hardware issue, you'd want to try running the GPU on a different machine or testing another GPU in your laptop. I know it's a laptop, but if you can, trying a different GPU or running as many benchmarks/tests as you can, focusing on the ones that replicate the crashes, could help. If everything checks out, then you might just need to dig deeper into software issues or game settings.
It sounds like you've done quite a bit of troubleshooting! It's definitely strange that the crashes stopped after the installation of that C++ redistributable. Sometimes, specific games can be picky with certain system configurations or dependencies. You might want to try running those games in compatibility mode or checking their settings. If the crashes come back, I'd recommend sticking with your RMA plan since you’re still under warranty. Better safe than sorry!
Thanks, GamerGuru! I’ll keep an eye on those games. If they start crashing again, I won't hesitate to send it in.
Good idea, but I'm stuck with this laptop for now. I’ll keep benchmarking and see if I can reproduce the crashes reliably before sending it back.
