Help! My Laptop Screen Goes Blank After Upgrading RAM

I recently upgraded my laptop RAM, replacing two 8GB sticks with two 16GB sticks (totaling 32GB). However, when I try to use the new RAM, my laptop's screen goes blank and nothing happens. The new RAM has the same specifications as the old RAM, apart from being larger: 2x16GB Crucial SO-DIMM rated at 3200MHz and 1.2V. My laptop has an RTX 3060 GPU and an R5 5600H CPU, so it should be compatible, but it doesn't work! What should I do?

Yeah, you've got it right with the 2x16 GB configuration. Your laptop model is the AN515-45-R6XD, if that helps anyone out here!

From what you've said, it looks like 1 new stick works but 2 doesn't. That’s strange! It could be an issue with how your laptop handles dual-channel configurations. You might want to try mixing and matching the old and new RAM sticks to see if any specific combination works.

I'll try using one old and one new stick next! Thanks for the tip!

It sounds like the RAM should be compatible. A good first step is to try using just one stick of the new RAM in each of the slots, one at a time. This can help you determine if one of the sticks or slots is causing the issue. You might also want to revert back to the old RAM to check if it's a slot problem. Resetting the CMOS can also be helpful; you can find specific instructions for your laptop model online. Hope that helps!

Did you say 216GB of RAM? That would be quite a beast! Just clarifying, you meant 2x16GB, right? Also, it would help to know the make and model of your laptop. Don't forget to check if your BIOS is updated, as it can often resolve such issues.

I can't say for sure without more details, but you should test each new stick individually to see if one of them is faulty. Also, consider checking for a BIOS update, as that might help resolve compatibility issues. Just be sure to do thorough research on the update process.
