Help! My Laptop Screen is Glitching Badly, What Should I Do?

Hey everyone, I'm having a major issue with my HP Victus laptop. Just about an hour ago, I opened it and the screen started glitching like crazy—it's barely readable. I followed some advice I found online and uninstalled the graphics driver, but now it's even worse. The screen is covered in pink and orange horizontal stripes, except for a small area in the top left corner that has a yellow square and a black blotch. I wish I could share a photo, but I'm not sure how to do that. Is there anything I can do to fix this on my own? I really can't afford to take it in for repairs right now, and I do all my work on this laptop!

It sounds like this could be a hardware issue, especially with the connection between the motherboard and the screen. If the image changes when you open or close the hinge, that's a telltale sign. Have you dropped it or bent the hinge back further than usual? That kind of thing can definitely screw up the wiring.

I actually dropped it a while ago, but it seemed fine until now. I used it for a couple of hours before this glitching started and there were no issues since then.

Sounds like a hardware problem to me too. To figure out if it's the GPU or the screen (or maybe just the cable), try hooking your laptop up to an external monitor. If the external display works fine, that would narrow it down to either a cable issue or a problem with your screen. Also, that black blotch could indicate physical screen damage.

I wish I could show a pic! But yeah, if I can get my hands on an external monitor, I'll definitely try that.
