I recently connected my new Hisense 58-inch TV to my laptop, and it worked perfectly at 4K 60fps. However, I decided to push the refresh rate up to 100Hz to see if it would improve the picture quality. Now, I've lost the output to my TV, and the laptop screen is disabled, leaving me completely blind to what's happening. I suspect that it might have saved the TV settings from my roommate's Hisense TV, which is a similar model but smaller. In the past, 100Hz and 120Hz worked fine on that one. I've tried a bunch of fixes—unplugging and plugging the HDMI back in, restarting both the TV and laptop, even booting into safe mode. I also attempted to change display settings blindly using shortcuts, but nothing seems to work. I'm wondering if I can reset the settings using another TV when I go home in a few days.

I get your frustration! It sounds like your laptop might be stuck on the second display settings. Try this: if your laptop isn't showing anything at all, try rebooting while holding either the F8 or F10 key repeatedly (depending on your laptop) to bring up the display options menu. It might give you the chance to switch back to just using the laptop screen.
Thanks for the tip! I'll give that a shot when I'm back home.
