Help! My Microphone Won’t Work on Ubuntu—Any Ideas?

I've been trying to get my microphone to work on my new Linux PC running Ubuntu, but I'm having no luck at all. The mic works perfectly on both my Windows PC and my phone, but on Linux? It's just random noise when I try to record using Audacity. I've done quite a bit of troubleshooting already but could use some guidance.

Here's what I've tried so far:
- My mic is detected but only produces static and random noise.
- I've browsed online but couldn't find solutions that worked for me.
- I even tried various audio software like Grok, ChatGPT, and Mistral with no success.
- I reinstalled all audio-related components multiple times and still nothing!

For context, my PC's specs are:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600
- GPU: ASRock Radeon RX 6600 Challenger D 8GB GDDR6
- RAM: 32GB
- Motherboard: Gigabyte B550M AORUS ELITE

I bought the mic from AliExpress and it's a 3.5mm connection with a split cable. I'm using PulseAudio on PipeWire (the default for Ubuntu) but am hitting a wall. Any tips or ideas to get this mic working would be greatly appreciated!

Hey there! It sounds like you've been doing a lot of troubleshooting already. One common issue with Linux audio setups is that sometimes the wrong input source is selected. Have you tried checking the input settings in PulseAudio or using pavucontrol? You might also want to ensure that the correct profile is set, especially if you have Bluetooth headphones that might be conflicting with your mic.

Let us know if you need any help navigating those options!

Thanks for the tip! I’ll definitely check pavucontrol again and see if I can select the right input. I’ll keep you posted!
