Help! My Monitor Keeps Losing Signal While Gaming

Hey everyone! I recently set up a new PC with a Dell S2721HGF monitor and I initially used an HDMI cable. However, I was advised that a DisplayPort (DP) cable would offer better performance, so I picked up a budget $10 one from Amazon. The problem I'm facing is that while gaming, my screen freezes, goes black, and then shows "no DP signal from your device." It reconnects after a moment but it shuts down all my applications. I tried the HDMI cable again, but it did the same thing. I checked my drivers, and they are up to date, so I'm a bit lost here. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Have you tried a different cable? Just to rule that out? Also, does this issue only occur when you're gaming? Losing connection shouldn't close your apps, so that part is puzzling. Maybe a test run with another game or switching the connection back to HDMI could give a clue.

Check to see if the problem happens with your HDMI as well. But if you've already experienced the same issue there, maybe the problem lies elsewhere. That's strange that your system shuts down applications when connectivity is lost. You could be looking at a graphics card issue, or maybe even power settings.

It sounds like that $10 DP cable might not be able to handle the performance your setup demands, especially at 1080p and 144Hz. There are different types of DisplayPort cables, and cheaper ones can lack the necessary bandwidth. You might want to consider investing in a higher quality cable to see if that resolves the issue.

Who told you that DP is superior? I mean, it generally is, but the real-world performance can depend on your specific setup. If everything’s functioning properly, either should work without these errors.
