Help! My Old PC Boots to a Black Screen

I'm trying to get my old desktop PC, a Dell from 2008, to start up after not using it for a long time. It initially shows a boot screen that says 'launch Windows repair,' but then the screen goes blank shortly after. Sometimes, the screen lights up again showing the repair window for a moment before going blank once more. I also got a message saying 'computer was unable to start' at the end. Can anyone help me troubleshoot this?

Sounds like a classic case of hardware or operating system issues. Given how old your PC is, it might be worth checking if the hard drive is still functioning properly. You could try reseating the RAM and cables first. If you can, boot into Safe Mode to see if it can recover. Let us know how that goes!

I’ll give that a try. Thanks!

Yeah, definitely worth trying Safe Mode! It might let you access the system and diagnose any software issues.
