Hey everyone! I recently built a new PC, and I'm running into a strange issue while playing video games. My games will suddenly freeze up, but the sound still works, and I can easily alt-tab to the desktop or open Task Manager without a problem. Once the game crashes, I can just quit it via Task Manager and restart. The frequency of these crashes varies—some games crash about every hour, while the latest DOOM game crashes about every 10 minutes! I'm suspecting it might be related to my GPU or RAM, but I'm not sure where to start troubleshooting. Any tips? Here are my specs:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600 3.8 GHz 6-core
MOBO: Gigabyte B650 EAGLE AX ATX AM5
Memory: TEAMGROUP T-Create Expert 32 GB (2 x 16) DDR5-6000 CL30
Storage: Western Digital Black SN770 1TB NVME SSD
Storage 2: Samsung 990 Pro 2 TB NVME SSD
GPU: Gigabyte WINDFORCE OC GeForce RTX 4070 12 GB
Power Supply: MSI MAG A650BN 650 W 80+

Have you checked if you have an XMP profile or any overclocking on your RAM? If you do, it might be worth resetting to default settings and trying again. Also, look at using only one stick of RAM at a time to test if that's where the issue lies. And keep an eye on your CPU and GPU temperatures while gaming too—it could give us some clues if they're overheating!
Hmm, usually if RAM is the culprit, it can cause black or blue screens. But it can still lead to game crashes, so it's worth checking!
Hey! Do you notice a black screen appearing for a few seconds when the crashes happen? If not, it might not be a full system crash, just the game locking up.
Nope, it just freezes. No black or blue screen, I can still hear the game audio.
No XMP or overclocking settings for me. My CPU and GPU temps look normal during gameplay, but I haven't tried running with just one stick of RAM yet.
