Help! My PC is Locked After a Failed BIOS Update

I've been having major issues with my computer, which my boyfriend built for me about a year and a half ago. It's mainly for playing The Sims 4 and Baldur's Gate 3. While BG3 runs perfectly, The Sims 4 would shut off completely after about 20-45 minutes of play. After some troubleshooting, I thought I resolved it by disabling Game DVR, which was causing problems. However, the real disaster struck when I attempted to update the BIOS. The computer shut down during the update, and now I'm locked out with an error saying my PIN isn't available. I've tried every method to regain access, including restoring from the previous state and following guides online, but no luck. I'm super frustrated and need help! Can anyone suggest a way to fix this or revert to a previous BIOS?

It sounds like a rough situation for sure. When you run into issues after a BIOS update, the best bet is to try a BIOS flashback if your motherboard supports it. It can help restore the original BIOS. Just make sure you follow the specific instructions for your motherboard. If that doesn’t work, you might need to consider a fresh Windows install using a USB. There are plenty of tutorials out there for that. Good luck!

I agree with you! Flashing back might help. Just remember to double-check that you’re using the correct BIOS version to avoid further issues.

Have you checked for dust accumulation? Sometimes overheating can cause unexpected shutdowns. If the PC was idle for a year, it could be clogged with dust. Opening it up and giving it a good clean might do wonders and prevent future issues.
