Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a panic. My PC has been freezing a lot lately and I think it's nearing the end of its life after five years. Unfortunately, I can't afford to get a new one because my mom says no, and I'm too young to find a job in Texas right now. I really need some advice on how to keep my PC running smoothly for at least another year while I figure things out. Here are my specs:
- Windows 10 Home (Version 22H2)
- AMD Ryzen 3 3100 4-Core Processor (3.59 GHz)
- 8 GB RAM
- 477 GB SSD (ADATA SU720)
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER (6 GB)
Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

First off, have you cleaned your PC and reapplied thermal paste? If you haven't, overheating could be causing those crashes. Also, check the health of your SSD; they don't last forever. Finally, consider updating your BIOS and OS. You've got room for upgrades too—upgrading your RAM to at least 16 GB (ideally in dual-channel) could really help your performance. You can generally find decent deals on RAM online. Just keep in mind, since you're planning to hold off buying a new PC, saving a bit for upgrades isn't a bad idea.
Backing up your files is a smart move! If your PC is acting up, having everything saved on a USB drive or cloud storage means you won’t lose anything important if it finally gives out. I've had issues before where a fresh install of Windows worked wonders, so even looking into that might be worth considering if things don't improve.
Yeah, I definitely plan on backing up everything. I just want to prevent a total crash!
Cleaning your PC can make a significant difference! I blew dust out of mine, and it helped performance a ton. If it’s been a while since you cleaned it, definitely do that. Just open the cover and clean the fans and motherboard carefully—no need to take everything apart unless you're comfortable. And don't forget to tidy up your cables too; that can help with airflow!
I'm scared to open it too much but I'll definitely clean the fans and try to blow out some dust!

Thanks for the tips! I might be too late on the thermal paste but I’ll check my SSD. I'm also thinking about backing up my files just in case.
