Help! My PC Won’t Boot After Trying Integrated Graphics

I recently removed my graphics card to test out the integrated graphics on my CPU. I plugged my DisplayPort cable into the motherboard to see how it performed. Unfortunately, my PC wouldn't boot up after that, so I reinstalled the GPU, but it's still not booting. I've attempted to clear the CMOS and reseat the RAM, but nothing seems to work. The PC powers on—the RGB lights and fans are running—but there are no error LEDs showing on the motherboard. The power button works to turn the PC on, but it won't turn off even if I hold it down. Am I out of luck here?

You mentioned "it didn't boot" several times, but could you clarify what you mean by that? At which stage is your boot process failing? From what you describe, it sounds like your system powers up fine with all RGB lights on and no error LEDs, which seems like a successful boot. The only problem appears to be the video output. Have you ensured the DisplayPort is also connected to the monitor? As for the power button behaving strangely, did you hold it down for just a second like a standard shutdown, or did you try holding it for longer to perform a forced shutdown?

When I first switched the DP to the motherboard, everything powered up, but I got no video output. My RGB profile usually loads without logging in, and I hear the Windows startup sound, but neither happened this time. Now, the setup is back to where it started: DP going back to the GPU, all connections checked, and I still end up with a black screen and no post, just the RGB lights defaulting to the motherboard profile.

Is your GPU seated correctly? I know I'm not an expert, but I had a similar issue with my last build where it wouldn't boot because the GPU wasn't properly seated. It looked fine, but it needed more pressure to click into place.

Yes, it's well-seated. The issues started after I tried to boot using the CPU graphics.

Have you tried plugging the display back into your graphics card instead of the motherboard? It may sound silly, but this is a common oversight in situations like yours. Also, what CPU do you have? If it's an F-series model (like the 12400F), then it doesn’t have integrated graphics, which might confuse your motherboard regarding the display output. The weird thing about your power button not shutting down the computer could indicate a stuck power state, so you might want to unplug the PSU, hold down the power button for 30 seconds, then try booting it again fresh.

I have a Ryzen 7700X, and I'm currently using the DisplayPort on the GPU.
