I recently built my first PC, and after successfully installing Windows, I decided to try installing Linux Mint. I needed a free flash drive for that, but I only have one, so I attempted to fix a booting issue instead. My AI suggested that a CMOS reset could resolve the problem, so I powered off my system and pressed the reset button on the motherboard. Now, my PC won't POST at all. I've tried booting with just one stick of RAM, but it still doesn't work. Here are my specs: 5070 Ti GPU, Ryzen 7 7800X3D CPU, 2TB NVMe SSD, and 2x16GB CL32 6400MT RAM. I have a computer science tutor coming over later today, so I'd really like to get this issue fixed within the next hour!

It sounds like a frustrating situation! Just to clarify, when you mention your PC only booted with the installation USB connected, that's unusual behavior. Typically, you shouldn't need that to get into the BIOS or boot the system without needing an OS flash drive. Since you're unable to POST now, are you able to access the BIOS settings? You might want to try resetting to the BIOS default settings if you can get in there. That could help fix any incorrect settings that might have occurred after the CMOS reset.

Yeah, I agree with that! Also, sometimes reseating your RAM and GPU can help. Just try taking them out and putting them back in. It’s a simple step that can fix a surprising number of issues!
