I recently tried to upgrade my setup by swapping my Ryzen 7 2700 with a Ryzen 5 5500, and replacing my RTX 2060 with an AMD 6900 XT. However, I forgot to update the BIOS on my motherboard first. After trying to boot, I got no image, and the GPU fans weren't spinning, even though the power indicator was on. I reconnected my old CPU and GPU, but now my B450-F motherboard is giving me a USB over current warning and shutting off automatically. I've disconnected all USB devices and it still shuts down randomly while starting up or in BIOS. I'm worried that something might have shorted during the swap, but I was careful throughout the process. I've reset the CMOS and inspected the components, but nothing's changed. Any advice on what could be going wrong?

It sounds like there might be a short circuit or a loose connection somewhere, especially with the USB over current warning. Did you also check the front panel connectors? They can sometimes cause these issues if they’re not properly seated or connected. Take a look at those just to be safe!

I didn’t touch the front panel connector, but I do remember dropping my screwdriver while removing the CPU cooler. I didn’t think much of it at the time, but should I be worried? Am I looking at needing a new motherboard?
