Help! My Samsung 990 Evo Plus SSD Isn’t Being Detected by My Motherboard

Hey all, I recently picked up a Samsung 990 Evo Plus SSD and installed it in the Ultra M.2 slot (M2_1), but I'm having some trouble getting it to show up. It's not being detected in the BIOS or Windows at all.

To troubleshoot, I tried swapping the new SSD with my existing SATA SSD that was previously in the bottom M.2 slot, but neither of them showed up. I also tested just using the SATA SSD in the top M.2 slot, and it completely vanished from my system.

I read about potential pin definition issues with this SSD after I purchased it, but I wouldn't mind using it in the bottom slot for now, as long as I can get some recognition from it. Is there a way to enable NVMe support for the bottom M.2 slot or should I consider getting an adapter card as a last resort?

EDIT: I managed to update my BIOS and enabled the "Force M2_2 to support PCIe type device" option in the settings. It's now visible in the BIOS at least! I'm going to try and see if I can connect my other SSD too, but I'm relieved it's working for now.

Have you checked if the NVMe drive shows up in Windows Disk Manager? That's usually a good first step. It might give you a clue about what's going on.

Just to clarify, only the second M.2 slot supports SATA, so it's normal for your SATA drive to not be recognized in the top slot. Both M.2 slots should handle NVMe, but if your SSD isn't recognized at all, it might be a faulty drive. Though, since you mentioned it’s recognized after your BIOS update, sounds like a motherboard issue was indeed the problem!
