Hey everyone! I'm new to building PCs and I'm trying to update my drivers for the first time. I'm installing the Nvidia Game Ready Driver 576.40 for my MSI RTX 5070, but then my screen went completely black. I've checked that my HDMI cables are securely connected, and I can't even boot into safe mode. When I try to turn off my PC, the power button doesn't respond. I'm wondering if unplugging my PC from the wall would help or if it might cause any damage. I'm on Windows 11 if that's relevant. Any tips or advice would really help!

I've run into the same issue before! If you're on the recent 24H2 update for Windows 11, it's pretty buggy. I left mine on the black screen for a while, and surprisingly, it installed anyway. After a hard reboot, everything was back to normal.
When rebooting, try holding the Shift key to access the troubleshooting options, which might let you start in safe mode. If it's still stuck, consider using advanced startup for a system restore or refresh.
Sounds frustrating! If you've got a black screen, one immediate option is to just unplug the PC for a bit like you mentioned. I did that once for around 30-40 seconds after waiting on a black screen for too long, and it rebooted fine. It’s annoying how Nvidia updates can bring up all these new problems. Just make sure you've got backups of your data before doing anything risky!
