Help! My son’s phone got blocked from sending texts, how do I check for abuse?

Hey everyone, I'm facing a bit of a situation with my 12-year-old son's phone. Recently, he started having trouble sending texts. After some troubleshooting, we reached out to the carrier and discovered that his messaging capability was blocked due to an excessive amount of messages being sent, which seems strange because he hardly texts at all. I suspect this might be linked to a recent incident where he clicked on a sketchy link on his computer, leading to someone harassing him for money. I've taken measures to clean his PC and secure it, including running virus scans and changing passwords. However, I'm worried that someone might be maliciously using his phone number to send a ton of texts without our knowledge. What steps can I take to ensure his phone number isn't being misused?

It's tough to be 100% sure, especially if someone is potentially using his number to spam messages. Your best bet is to keep in close contact with the carrier; they can monitor the situation for unusual activity. Also, encourage your son to be cautious about clicking on links in the future and to report any weird messages he might receive.

Thanks for the advice! I'll definitely have a chat with him about that. Just to confirm, if the carrier's aware it's not us, should we do anything specific on our end to prevent another block?
