I recently upgraded my Synology DS918+ NAS from DSM 6 to 7.01 without any issues, but when I tried to upgrade to 7.2, I had to go through 7.1.1 first. After the second update, my NAS suddenly became unreachable, and I can't connect via VPN anymore. I can ping the NAS successfully from another server on the same network, but I can't SSH into it (it fails at banner exchange), and I can't access the service on port 5000 either. QuickConnect is also showing errors, saying services are busy or that the NAS isn't connected to the internet. I've been trying to check on it for about 4.5 hours now, and I'm really worried. Does anyone have any suggestions or hope for a fix?

First, try heading over to http://find.synology.com to see if your NAS shows up there. Sometimes it might be on a different IP address after an update. If you confirm it’s on its usual static IP, ping it and check if it’s responding. If nothing comes back and you can't access it through the usual ports, power cycle the NAS and cross your fingers. There are also some reset modes you might want to look into.
Honestly, it sounds pretty dire. You might need to restore from a backup or set it up from scratch, but fingers crossed it allows you to import the disks. Just remember, these prosumer devices can be tricky for a reason.
