I was using my thumb drive without any issues, but when I got home and plugged it into my laptop, it didn't recognize it. I can hear the drive when I connect and disconnect it, but none of my files are visible. Does anyone have advice on how I can access the files?

When you check disk management, does it display any storage or partitions for the drive? That would give a clue if it's a recognition issue.
Have you tried checking Computer Management under Storage? Sometimes, your thumb drive might just need a drive letter assigned for it to show up in Explorer.
