Help! My Windows Update Crashes Every Time I Open It

I'm having a really frustrating issue with my Windows 11 on my Lenovo laptop that's about seven years old. Whenever I try to access the 'Windows Update' section in settings, it crashes immediately. I've run just about every troubleshooter I could find, but nothing seems to work. As a college student, I've accumulated a massive amount of important files, and I can't afford to lose any of them. I'm looking for solutions, but I need to avoid doing a hard reset. Any advice?

Before you dive into any complex fixes, definitely back up your important files. You could split your drive into two, transfer over the files you can’t lose, and then make a bootable USB. If your laptop can handle it, install Windows 11 fresh—just remember to format the C drive during installation. That's a solid way to clean up your system while keeping your important stuff safe! Just don’t forget to keep an external drive for those important files for extra peace of mind.

Seriously, back up everything important first. There may be fixes down the line, but it’s better to be safe and avoid losing anything. Once you're backed up, you can explore other methods to tackle the update crash.

You might want to consider backing up your data to cloud services like Google Drive or OneDrive. After you've secured your files, you could reset your PC. If Windows 11 continues to give you trouble, think about rolling back to Windows 10. Linux is another option if you have the freedom to switch it up—just check if your college requires Windows.
