Help! Proton Prefix for My Game is Always Empty

I'm facing a frustrating issue with Proton. I have a game installed with forced Proton enabled, and while the game starts and runs smoothly, I've noticed that the Proton prefix is nearly empty—about 90% vacant! When I check the Proton prefix directory for the game (for example, Cyberpunk 2077), there's almost nothing in it except for one file named libraryfolders.vdf. I'm really struggling to get the prefix for any of my games to include files, which is problematic because most mods for Cyberpunk 2077 won't work without a properly set up prefix. Any advice on how to fix this?

I ran into a similar issue once. You can try running Steam from the command line to see if any error messages pop up when you try running your game. Also, make sure your Proton version is up to date; sometimes, bugs in earlier versions can mess things up. And don't forget to check your file permissions on the Steam directory—sometimes they can prevent files from being created or modified.

You could also check the Proton installation folder to see if there are any missing files. If you installed it from RPMfusion, the installation should be solid, but it might be worth trying to reinstall Proton itself just to be safe. Also, consider running any validation checks that Steam offers to see if there are corrupted files.

First off, you should definitely mention your distro and hardware details when seeking help—it's super helpful for others trying to assist. Since you mentioned you're on Fedora 43 and using XFS for your Steam drive, have you confirmed whether Steam is installed natively or if you’re using it through Flatpak? Those can really impact how compatibility layers like Proton operate.
