I'm in a bit of a bind and I feel like I'm losing it! I'm trying to remove a motherboard from its case, but the screw is stripped and I don't have a drill handy to help remove it safely. I did notice there seems to be a decent margin around the screw with no components nearby. How risky would it be to chip or damage the motherboard to get it out?

You might want to try the rubber band trick between your screwdriver and the screw for better grip. Honestly, I’m not sure why you’d want to damage the board when there are other ways! Why not just see if you can drill it out from the case instead?
Have you thought about getting behind the motherboard? You might be able to remove the standoff with a pair of long or angled needle-nose pliers while leaving it attached to the board, which would give you more control when separating it from the motherboard later.
Don't damage the motherboard if you can help it! I'd recommend trying a stripped screw remover kit or using superglue to attach something to the screw so you can twist it out.
Just a heads-up, whether you're using a rubber band or a screw extractor, make sure you apply pressure directly downwards on that stripped screw. If you slip, you could really damage something.

Turns out I never heard of the rubber band trick and that worked, surprisingly, thanks!
