Help with NVIDIA Graphics Driver on OpenSuse

I'm running OpenSuse on my new desktop, and I'm having trouble getting the NVIDIA graphics driver to work. I've tried a few different installation methods, and although YAST shows that the driver is installed, I'm still experiencing low resolution. The settings indicate that this is the maximum resolution available. I'm not very familiar with Linux and I'm feeling pretty frustrated. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Could you share your system specs and the specific version of OpenSuse you’re using? Sometimes issues with the NVIDIA driver can stem from settings like secure boot being enabled. Disabling that might help get the driver working properly.

You might want to consider creating a bootable drive with different distros like BigLinux or EndeavourOS. They often have good support for NVIDIA out of the box. When installing, be sure to select the option for proprietary drivers during the setup process. It could save you some hassle!

If you're still having trouble, a quick test would be to remove the graphics card and see how the system runs without it. There can be compatibility issues between NVIDIA and Linux, and it might give you some insight into where the problem is.

It sounds like you're dealing with a tricky situation! First, make sure to list your exact graphics card model; it helps troubleshoot better. Since you mentioned having an MSI GeForce RTX 3060, that’s good to know! Sometimes, the right drivers might not be installed correctly, even if YAST says they are. Have you checked for any error messages or warnings when you're trying to run the NVIDIA settings?
