I'm currently using LMDE7 and I want to switch to Windows 10. I've downloaded the Windows ISO file, but I'm having trouble because the default USB writer isn't working. Can anyone help me figure out what to do next?

Why the switch to Windows 10? It’s kind of being phased out soon, right? If you’re planning to dual boot, just remember that installing Windows will change your boot order, potentially overriding LMDE7. Be prepared for that shift.

Haha, just say Windows! It's really not that scary to say it.

I'm glad you've tried LMDE7! Just a heads up, your account might not have root access on Debian. You may need to create a root account to write the ISO to your USB. That's probably the issue you're encountering.

The Windows ISO isn't quite the same as standard Linux ISOs, so you might run into issues if you try writing it directly from Linux. Definitely give Ventoy a shot, or if you have a friend with Windows, you could use the Media Creation Tool on their machine to create the USB.

For sure, Ventoy is the way to go! It makes creating bootable USBs really simple.

Have you checked what the error message says? Usually, there’s a reason why the USB writer isn't working. You might want to try using Ventoy or balenaEtcher instead. I personally like Ventoy because it's super easy to use—just drag and drop your ISO onto the USB.
