Help with Unallocated Space on My 8TB HDD

I'm dealing with an 8TB hard drive, but I'm running into some issues. A portion of it is showing up as unallocated in Windows 11's disk management tool. I've successfully formatted and added a 2TB section as a partition to my existing SSD, but the remaining 5TB is giving me trouble. I can't seem to find any options to format or allocate it. How can I recover the full 8TB space and create new partitions? Unfortunately, I can't attach an image to illustrate the problem.

It sounds like your HDD might still be using the MBR partition scheme, which has a limit of 2TB per partition. You may want to convert it to GPT (GUID Partition Table) to make full use of your 8TB drive. However, if the option to convert is greyed out, you'll need to delete any existing partitions on that 5TB section first. Just be careful to back up any crucial data before proceeding! If you're looking for more detailed steps on how to do this, you might find guides on disk management software helpful.

I had a similar issue! I suggest using Diskpart through the Command Prompt. You can open it as an admin and use the commands to delete the unallocated space and convert the disk to GPT. Just make sure you double-check which disk you're modifying to avoid losing any data. You can find plenty of tutorials online that walk you through the process step by step.
