High RAM Usage on My Gaming Laptop – Is It Normal?

I'm dealing with a frustrating RAM issue on my computer and could use some help. My laptop consistently runs at 75-95% RAM usage since I first got it new. While it performs well most of the time, with occasional issues like web pages blanking out or audio lagging, I find it unusual for a 16GB RAM gaming laptop to run this high on memory usage, especially since I don't even game on it! I multitask a lot with programs like Photoshop, Mixcraft, and Spotify. My specs are as follows:
- Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 15ACH6
- Windows 11
- AMD Ryzen 7 5800H with Radeon Graphics (3.20 GHz)
- 16GB RAM (13.9 usable)

It appears that Google Chrome is consuming a large chunk of my RAM, averaging around 5,200MB while other processes use significantly less. Despite my attempts to manage Chrome's usage such as enabling efficiency mode, closing tabs, clearing the cache, and even disabling plugins, it still seems to linger in the task manager even when closed. I'm curious:
1. Is it okay for my RAM to run this high constantly?
2. Does this high usage impact the lifespan of my laptop?
3. Should I consider upgrading my RAM?

To answer your other question, running your RAM that high regularly shouldn't necessarily damage your hardware, but it could affect overall performance and responsiveness. Remember, Chrome is known for being a RAM hog. You might want to look into configurations within your system or simply switch to a lighter browser to see if it improves your experience.

Having your RAM usage that high is generally not a good sign, especially if it’s consistent. While Windows can manage high RAM usage, it doesn't mean you should ignore it. Continuously high RAM can slow down performance and may stress the system over time. If Chrome is the main culprit and you’ve tried reducing its usage without success, it’s worth considering switching to another browser or even looking into more RAM if it’s feasible for your laptop.

Exactly! And if you're still struggling even when trying to manage what you've got, upgrading to 32GB might help, especially since your laptop supports it.
