How can I access my password-protected document in Apache OpenOffice 3?

I'm having trouble accessing a document in Apache OpenOffice 3 because I accidentally forgot the password I wrote down. I've been trying different variations of what I think the password could be, but nothing seems to work. Since Apache OpenOffice 3 is an older application, I'm wondering if there are any methods or tricks to bypass the password protection? I really need help getting into this document!

You might have some luck with a process similar to what works for Word documents. If you rename your .odt file (OpenOffice document) to an .zip file, you could potentially extract the contents. Just be sure to back it up first! Once you’ve renamed it, unzip the file and see if there’s a text file inside that has your data. Keep in mind, the formatting might not be preserved, but the text should be there!

I tried that method, but it said the compressed file was empty. Not sure what went wrong.

I had the same issue! I thought I might have corrupted it somehow, but when I tested it with another file, it worked. It’s super frustrating!
