I'm trying to upgrade my Dell ECT1250 desktop by adding a 1TB SATA 3 SSD from my old PC as a secondary drive. The main SSD is a 512GB M2, which is working great. However, I ran into a problem because I can't find any spare SATA power cables from the power supply unit (PSU). I've checked everywhere inside the tower and even inside the PSU, but it seems like there aren't any available. I do see open SATA ports on the motherboard, so I'm hoping I just need a way to connect the power. Is there a specific part I need to buy for this, and where exactly should I connect it?

You could check if your PSU has any additional power ports. If it doesn't, a SATA power splitter cable could be a good solution. Also, sometimes those additional cables are hidden behind side panels, so it's worth checking there too!
Keep in mind that Dell often builds their systems to be less customizable. If there really are no available power connections, you might want to consider building a custom PC next time, as it can save you from these kinds of headaches.
Just to clarify, if your M2 drive doesn’t require any extra cables, it’s possible that Dell cut costs by not including SATA power cables in the PSU. Checking for compatibility or getting a new PSU with these connections might be necessary if you want to add that SSD.
If your PSU truly doesn’t have SATA power cables, your options include picking up a SATA to USB enclosure, which lets you use that SSD externally. That could be a good way to go without having to tinker too much with the internals!
Adding your own SSD to a pre-built Dell can be tricky! Unfortunately, Dell's tech support might not provide guidance for modifications. Your best bet is to look for a SATA power splitter if your PSU has a free SATA power connection. You can find those online pretty easily and they're quite inexpensive.
