I have an iPhone 14 running iOS 18.5, and I've hit the limit of my 5 GB iCloud storage. I already have two backups in there—one for my iPhone and one for my iPad—plus a lot of space taken up by messages. Now, I can't create a new backup without deleting something, which makes me nervous about losing my current data forever. Is there any way to back up my phone without having to pay for extra iCloud storage? Also, if there's a method to save my messages to free up space, I'd be open to that.

You could either pay for additional iCloud storage (it’s usually just 99 cents) or back up your iPhone to your computer. If you want to back up to a computer, just connect your phone using a USB cable, open iTunes (or Finder on MacOS Catalina and later), and you can do a full backup from there without the storage limits. It's a great way to keep everything safe without worrying about iCloud limits!
How do you actually back up to a computer?
