I have two NVME SSDs installed on my system: one is a newer model that has the operating system and is labeled as Disk 1, while the older one, which is now just used for backup and overflow storage, is labeled as Disk 0. I find it a bit bothersome (maybe it's just my OCD), but I'd like the OS drive to be recognized as Disk 0. I'm planning to reinstall Windows soon and wanted to know if there's a way to change the disk order during the installation process. Even aside from the reinstall, is there a way to alter the disk numbering in general?

Check out this page for more info on disk numbering: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/3160672/switch-disk-numbers-i-want-disk-0-to-be-disk-1-and. But keep in mind, since you have NVME drives, the instructions might not really apply since NVME doesn't use cables. It's all about how they connect to the motherboard.
Unfortunately, I don't think you can change the disk numbering in Windows. It's typically determined by the motherboard and how the drives are connected. My boot drive is also listed as Disk 3, and they seem to be locked in that order based on the bus configuration.
If you're doing a fresh install, you could simply install Windows on the drive that shows up as Disk 0. However, if you prefer the current Disk 1 to be labeled as Disk 0, you'd have to swap their physical positions on the motherboard. Just keep in mind that you'll want to avoid handling the drives too much if they have heatsinks.
