How can I clone my old SSD to a new one without losing data?

I'm looking to replace my old SSD with a new one, but I don't have a USB to M.2 adapter for direct cloning. I do have an external HDD that can hold all the data from my old SSD, but I want to make sure I don't lose any important files. Is there a way to clone my SSD without the adapter? If it's too risky, I'll just buy the adapter instead.

You can actually create a drive image instead of directly cloning it. This means you'll take an image of your old SSD and then restore that image onto the new SSD using some rescue media. This way, you avoid losing any data on your external drive. Just remember to select the 'image drive' option instead of 'clone drive' when you’re doing this.

Thanks for clarifying! So, I’ll need to boot the PC from the external drive that has the image when I'm ready to switch to the new SSD. Just checking since this is my first time doing an upgrade.
