How can I completely wipe my Micro SD card on a Mac?

I'm having trouble wiping a Micro SD card that I used with my Nintendo Switch, and I want to repurpose it. I'm on a MacBook, and the files from the Switch simply won't erase, no matter what I try. I attempted to format the card using the Switch itself, but it didn't recognize it after I had accessed it with my Mac. I also tried using Disk Utility to erase and format the card, but the files keep reappearing right away. I even used the terminal with the 'sudo erase' command, and the files magically come back as soon as I reconnect the card. I checked the card's info, and it says it's writable and not locked. Any advice on how I can completely wipe this card would be much appreciated!

Instead of just trying to delete files, try deleting the partitions on the SD card entirely. Create a fresh partition for the whole card and then format it. That should help clear everything out!

I gave the partitioning a shot, but I ran into issues. It won’t even let me partition it, and I get an error message when I try.
