How Can I Disable My Laptop’s Internal Display for External Use?

I've got an MSI GT75 Titan 8RG-071US with an i9 8th Gen processor and GTX 1080 graphics card. Unfortunately, the internal screen is completely detached from the body, and while I'm planning to fix it, I'm trying to set it up like a desktop in the meantime. I successfully loaded Mint 22, but I'm struggling with Windows 10 installations. During the update process, my external monitor goes black, and I end up needing to reinstall the OS. Right now, I'm installing Windows and updating drivers one by one, but when I try to install the GeForce drivers, the external monitor goes dark again. I'm looking for a way to completely disable the internal display through BIOS or Windows settings, but I'm limited since I don't have all the drivers. Any tips?

You usually have to physically disconnect the internal display cable from the motherboard to fully disable the internal screen. Just make sure to unplug the battery first because that flat cable carries live current, and you don’t want to short anything when you disconnect it. It might sound a bit drastic, but it’s often the most effective solution if you're dealing with a totally busted screen!

Good advice! I did this with my old laptop, and it worked perfectly to force it to use the external monitor.
