How Can I Effectively Stress Test My PC for Temperature Throttling?

I'm looking to stress test my computer to get a clear picture of how airflow management can help prevent temperature throttling. I want to see the differences before and after I upgrade my fans from a 1:1 to a 3:2 intake and exhaust ratio. My setup includes a Ryzen 5 7600X CPU and an RX 6750 XT GPU. I've noticed that during certain games, my CPU tends to throttle, likely due to insufficient cool air intake, especially since my CPU cooler is located above my GPU. I've ordered new fans but need to know how long it takes for my components to start throttling and which software I should use for testing. I've cleaned out the dust, so the system is ready for some serious testing!

If your CPU is hitting 95°C, that's pretty toasty! For testing, I usually run Cinebench for the CPU and 3DMark for the GPU. You can use HWINFO64 to keep track of the temperatures. Using both programs at once isn’t what I typically do, so that might be something new for you!

Check out OCCT—from what I've used, the free version is pretty solid for stress testing. Also, I suggest trying to make all your fans intake. The concept of exhaust might be outdated given how much better cooling is nowadays with open-air cases. I’ve had great results optimizing airflow this way.

Have you tried adjusting your fan curves first? To gauge how long it takes for your PC to throttle, you might just want to grab a stopwatch. Alternatively, using Afterburner can help you log data and visualize it. Not entirely clear on your specific needs, though.

I recommend using HWiNFO64. It's a great tool that can monitor temperatures across all your components and it’s free. If you already have temp monitoring software, just make sure to stress-test both your CPU and GPU simultaneously to see how your new fans improve cooling!
